Working Towards Accessible Classrooms for Deaf or Hard of Hearing Children and Youth

Planning, organizing and designing the classroom space is foundational and one of the many ways that teachers engage learners. How about Deaf or hard of hearing students? How can we set up spaces that are welcoming and accessible for all students, including those who are Deaf or hard of hearing? Join APSEA itinerant teachers, Hannah Wade and Joan Fillmore who are specialists in the field, as they walk through some ways you can work towards more accessible classrooms. You will have opportunities to ask questions, share your experiences and ideas setting up your classroom, and connect with specialists in the field of teaching Deaf or hard of hearing learners.

Participants will have opportunities to:

  • Explore 8 accommodations they can make in the classroom to increase accessiblity for Deaf or hard of hearing students
  • Connect with two teaching specialists for Deaf and hard of hearing students
  • Ask questions regarding supporting students who are Deaf and hard of hearing

Intended Participants:

  • School Team Members (Teachers, Educational Assistants etc.)
  • APSEA employees
