Did you know that American Sign Language (ASL) is a full language with rhyme, grammar rules, and a vocabulary that can express any concept or idea?
As with spoken languages, developing a rich vocabulary, conceptual knowledge and understanding of grammatical patterns is essential to fully access education and day to day communication. ASL can do everything English can do, but for students to truly succeed, it is important that they have access to others who use the language!
This cohort program, offered to students in elementary, aims to connect young students who use ASL.
Students in this program will have the opportunity to:
- Practice their expressive and receptive language
- Share experiences and perspectives through structured and unstructured conversations with their peers
- Learn with native ASL signers
