My Hearing and Me: An Early to Emerging Self-Advocacy Skills Program

( View ASL )

The more we know about ourselves, our hearing, and our deafness, the better we can communicate our needs. Learning about the anatomy of the ear, sharing hearing levels, and exploring our hearing devices normalizes what it means to be deaf or hard of hearing.

In this twelve-week foundation program, students in grades 3 – 6 will have the opportunity to:

  • Explore parts of the ear
  • Build an understanding of the ear works and how we hear
  • Review various types of amplification and explore their own hearing levels
  • Learn about their unique needs in the classroom and online
  • Investigate and practice basic communication repair strategies
