Using Repetition

Don’t be shy to revisit activities more than once. Repetition is a great strategy to consider during everyday interactions that provide children with the opportunity to hear the proper pronunciation or to see the ASL sign productions of a given word or targeted vocabulary they are learning. By repeating activities, children have more opportunities to practice matching the adult’s model. It also gives them more opportunities to listen or watch the intended message again. As Jim Trelease (author who wrote the Read Aloud Handbook) says, “Grammar is more caught than taught – you’re exposed to it” – so the more exposure, the better.
