The APSEA Auxiliary, originally known as the Halifax School for the Blind Auxiliary, was founded in 1974 and includes representation from church groups, community organizations and interested individuals. The mandate of the APSEA Auxiliary is to raise funds for children and youth who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind or visually impaired.
- Provide APSEA students with special toys and adaptive materials to enhance development of their sensory, motor and communication skills.
- Support the Toy Library which circulates adaptive toys, switches, and sensory devices to students receiving APSEA services.
- Respond to requests for specific student needs.
The APSEA Auxiliary undertakes a number of fundraising initiatives to supplement APSEA services, including the Fall Fair in November and the Bridge Marathon and Social in the spring.
In addition, the Auxiliary is supported by donations from individuals, church groups, community organizations and businesses. Donations are always appreciated and cheques may be made payable to the APSEA Auxiliary. Tax receipts will be issued upon request.
The Auxiliary meets monthly September to May for approximately 2 hours at the APSEA Centre. New members are always welcome!
