Safe Walk to APSEA Central Office

(ASL Translation)

For people who are Blind or Visually Impaired, the safest way to get to the new APSEA Central Office at 102-7071 Bayers Road is to avoid the open space parking lot and go through the main back entrance to the building, up to level two then back down to the exit near the YMCA. The new APSEA Central Office is up the sidewalk on the right and around a right corner. Here are some detailed directions for navigating through the main building to avoid the parking lot:

Bus Routes

Routes that service Desmond Avenue and Scot Street. There are two stops on Desmond Avenue coming from Bayers Road and two stops, one on Scot street and one on Desmond Avenue, coming from Joseph Howe Drive. The only cross walk is on Bayers Road and Desmond Avenue.

Route 8 Sackville Terminal

Route 2 Lacewood Terminal

Route 29 Bayers Road via Mumford

Route 91 Hemlock Ravine

Route 28 Lacewood Terminal

Navigating to the main Building at 7071 Bayers Road

Step 1

Once on the side of Desmond Avenue adjacent with the Bayers Road centre there are two half flights of stairs with an intermediate landing leading to the main entrance of the building. If coming up Desmond from Bayers Road, follow the side of the building until it ends, then the ascending stairs are on your right just past the outside facility entrance. If you are coming from Scot and Desmond, follow the retaining wall to the stairs on your left. Go up the stairs and enter the main entrance to 7071 on the right.

Step 2

Directly inside the building there are three radius steps with treads that lead to the escalators or elevator. There is a ramp directly to the left of the entrance. At the top of the ramp, the elevator is to your right or make a right U-turn and the escalators will be on your left.  At the top of the radius stairs, the escalators are directly in front of you, or the elevator is to the left. Go to the second level mall. The elevator is boxed and not recessed into the wall so you will need to walk around to the right side to access the doors. The escalators and elevator are adjacent so will bring you to the same area on the second floor.

Step 3

When on the second floor, go left through either of the two archways leading down a long corridor. The left archway will lead you down the corridor to two steps before the escalators and the archway on the right will lead you down the corridor to a ramp with the elevator on the right. Take either escalator or elevator down to the lower level.

Step 4

If you took the elevator to the lower level, you would need to go right to get past the escalators. When coming off the escalators, make a U-turn to the left off the escalators then go right down a corridor. At the end of this corridor go left to access the outside entrance near the YMCA at 7071 Bayers Road.

Step 5

Once outside again go right down the sidewalk to the end of the building. At the end of the building go right until you reach the perpendicular wall with the sidewalk, reducing it to half. On the other side of this wall is the entrance to 102-7071 Bayers Road, the new APSEA Central Office.
