About Gerry Nelson and Chris Villeneuve

While playing blind golf, Gerry and Chris work year-round to recruit new golfers while growing the game of blind golf in Canada and around the world. Gerry is passionate about golf and wants persons with vision loss to experience the same joys and opportunities that have been afforded to him while playing blind golf for over thirty years.

Gerry and Chris grew up in their same hometown of North Battleford, Saskatchewan and became best buddies when Gerry lost his eye sight at age 25. Gerry has lived with Diabetes since age 6. Chris has guided Gerry for the better part of more than thirty years. Gerry holds the current titles of Western Canadian Blind Golf Champion, US Open Champion, and Canadian Open Blind Golf champion, having won this event six times. As well, Gerry and Chris played on Team North America, defeating Team World in the 2022 Vision Cup at the famous TPC Sawgrass course in Ponta Vedra Beach, Florida. They will again be on Team North America when the Vision Cup will be staged in Austria in 2024. Having finished 2nd and 5th in the World Blind Golf Championships, they will both be there when Canada will host this event in 2025. When they are back at home, Gerry coordinates the Blind Golf Saskatchewan program and Chris helps Gerry to look to identify new blind golfers as well as planning tournaments and events for new and current members at the local level. For Gerry and Chris, it is all about blind and visually impaired kids having opportunities and growing the game of blind golf.
