This is an interactive series for learners to discuss non-visual/visual needs during travel and to learn from guest speakers about strategies for different types of travel in various environments. Strategies to develop independence across environments will be explored.
Learners in this program will have opportunities to:
- Interact with peers in discussions about topics related to orientation and mobility
- Discuss travel techniques and modes of transportation in both rural and urban areas
- Name and describe functional use of vision and self-advocacy used for travel
- Develop problem-solving skills to use during travel
- Discover what is involved in making an application for a guide dog, and discuss options for guide dog schools with current guide dog users
Grades/Age Level: Grades 9-12
Facilitators: Laurie Watson with co-presenters Peter Parsons, Jen Fancy, Jennie Bovard, Jen Hurren and Christine Arsenault. Guest speakers will be invited.
