Understanding Others: Skills for Navigating Friendships

Get ready to boost your social skills! This interactive program will help you sharpen your social skills and build stronger, more meaningful connections. We'll dive into techniques for reading social cues, understanding others’ perspectives, and practicing empathy—all essential for navigating friendships with confidence. Through activities and discussions, you’ll gain the tools to better connect with those around you and become a more socially aware, empathetic friend.

In this program, students will have opportunities to:

  • Learn how to see situations from others' viewpoints and understand different perspectives
  • Build your ability to read social cues and recognize emotions in various settings
  • Deepen your understanding of what makes a friendship healthy and strong

Program Details

  • Grades/Age Level: All grade levels
  • Language: English with ASL interpretation available
  • Schedule:
    • Tuesdays (January 14, 21, 28 and February, 4, 11, 18)
    • or Thursdays (January 16, 23, 30 and February 6, 13, 20)
  • Time: TBD based on learner groupings
  • Program Length: 6 weeks
  • Facilitator: Janice MacPhail, Education Support Teacher – Social Emotional Learning (EST-SEL)

Program Registration

Online learning programs for children and youth are designed for students who qualify for APSEA services and registration must be completed by the student's APSEA Educational Support Teacher (EST) / itinerant teacher.
