The Bedrock Curriculum is an instructional approach designed to support the development of foundational English literacy skills for students who are Deaf/hard of hearing who use American Sign Language (ASL). This program will enhance educators' knowledge and skills in supporting English language and literacy development within Language Arts programming. Participants will explore key components of the Bedrock approach and learn practical strategies for incorporating its principles into their classroom instruction.
Participants in this program will have opportunities to:
- Understand the purpose and importance of the Bedrock Curriculum in supporting English literacy development for students who use ASL.
- Explore key curriculum components, including beginning reading and writing, schema development, vocabulary, spelling, and sentence structure.
- Learn strategies for connecting ASL and English to support language and literacy growth.
- Discover practical ways to integrate Bedrock principles and activities into existing Language Arts instruction.
