Letter to Families of Children/Students on the APSEA Caseload

August 13, 2020

Dear Families of Children / Students on the APSEA Caseload,

As the Atlantic Provinces Departments of Education and Early Childhood Development and Life Long Learning have released their plans for students and staff to return to school, we are planning for the continuation of supports and services for children/students on the APSEA caseload. The well-being, health, and safety of children, youth and staff are top priorities for the Atlantic Provinces Special Education Authority (APSEA) as schools across the Atlantic region re-open in September 2020.

We will continue to work with families, early learning and school teams to ensure supports and services are delivered following expectations and standards for the safe operation of provincial services during the COVID-19 pandemic. APSEA is working with all four Atlantic Provinces and will continue to engage our educational partners as part of the re-entry to school process. APSEA will also seek guidance from provincial Public Health officers and agencies for information as required; adjustments to planning may be required given the evolving nature of this pandemic.

APSEA staff is working collaboratively with provincial departments, school districts/regions/boards and schools to support children/students and early childhood/school teams. Our focus will be placed on following provincial directives to ensure continued supports and services for the children and youth, families, and early childhood/school teams with whom APSEA works.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during these uncharted times as we deal with the Covid-19 pandemic. I will continue to keep you updated as new information is available.
