Family Focused Sign Language Weekend Session

Come Join Us to Learn Sign Language For Your Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children!

What: Learn American Sign Language as well as some Maritimes Sign Language

Who: Parents and relatives of Deaf and Hard of Hearing children are welcome! Others are also invited to join: childcare and service providers, itinerant teachers, counsellors, therapists and APSEA staff!

Where: Zoom platform

When: Friday November 26—Sunday November 28, 2021

  • Friday: 7—9 pm
  • Saturday: 9 am—4 pm
  • Sunday: 10 am—3 pm

Each level will be taught by a Deaf instructor:

Level 1— for participants with little knowledge of Sign Language

Level 2— for participants who are able to communicate in basic Sign Language: can tell one’s name, talk about where one lives and their family, knows the signs for animals, housing, emotions, colours, etc.

Level 3—for participants that are able to communicate in small groups (2-3 people) and converse in Sign Language for a longer period of time: can talk about abstract ideas, news, events, use classifiers effortlessly.

Level 4—for participants that are able to communicate in larger groups (4+ people) and converse in Sign Language on a daily basis: can talk about abstract ideas, news, events, as well as some use of conditional and rhetorical sentences.
