Planes, Trains, and Canes Spring Series

This program explores Orientation and Mobility in the context of international travel. Designed for learners who are interested in thinking beyond local experiences with O&M, this series introduces the vlog, Planes, Trains, and Canes, which features Professor Mona Minkara’s solo adventures as a blind traveler. During these 45-minute sessions, participants will follow Dr. Minkara as she navigated traveling internationally to a wide variety of countries and cities. Sessions will follow up with group discussions about accessibility topics raised and the different experiences Dr. Minkara encounters in each city. Dr. Minkara sets a great example of effective communication, self-advocacy, and technology skills as she documents her travels. Learners will gain a broadened sense of what to expect and how to be prepared for the use of public transportation in urban, international travel.

Learners in this program will have opportunities to:

  • Learn about effective communication, self-advocacy, and technology when navigating unique travel situations
  • Gain a broadened sense of travel in different environments as an individual with vision loss
